CardMunch 2.5 - We're All About the Quality!

CardMunch has been growing like wildfire over the past few months.  We're now handling thousands of cards a day, and the growth has been amazing to watch.  We've been working hard here at CardMunch,  scaling our service to match the incredible demand of busy, outbound professionals.

Today, we're announcing CardMunch 2.5, featuring a new and improved system to leverage that incredible community of CardMunch users to make the app better for everyone.  Now, if you get a card that you're not happy with, you can resubmit it to us to be re-transcribed.  When you do that, not only will you get a better transcription, but you'll also help us tune our human powered workforce.

CardMunch is Human Powered

CardMunch is unique in the world of business cards in that we leverage a real human workforce that manually transcribes each and every card you submit.

Human powered systems are only as good as the checks and balances you put in them to help the community enforce the highest quality standards.  With CardMunch 2.5, we've rolled out a wide variety of new improvements behind the scenes to help our workers do the best job possible and ensure the highest quality standards for your cards.

Resubmit is a big part of this.  Sending a clear signal that a card was not done properly the first time not only fixes the problem for the CardMunch user, but is also essential feedback for the workforce on the quality that you need from the service. Also in this release, users can now batch invite their contacts to Connect on LinkedIn and batch add their contacts to the iPhone address book.

Lots More to Come

Stay tuned for more great improvements to the CardMunch service.  We want to let our users know that we read and discuss every tweet and email you send us, so please let us know what you think about the new feature.

Thank you for your patience and a bigger thank you to the CardMunch users that helped us squash this bug! It was honestly a problem impossible for us to reproduce without your help.

Big News from CardMunch!

Cardmunchlinkedin_logo

We started CardMunch in December 2009 to solve a very simple problem – converting business cards into electronic contacts on your phone. At CardMunch, we recognized that business cards are an essential part of doing business, and that they serve a practical purpose by being the most frictionless way of exchanging contact information. We also recognized that the world is now mobile – the phone needs to be the center of our contact universe.

CardMunch for iPhone launched on the AppStore in August 2010 and we have been blown away by the response from our users. It is as if we touched a nerve for a truly unsolved problem. Since August we have been steadily adding new users, working on scaling our service, and adding new product features. CardMunch 2.0 launched in December 2010 and included CardFlow™ – the mobile rolodex that lets you flip through all your cards right on your iPhone, full-text search to search any field in your contacts, and LinkedIn integration that allows one-touch connecting on the premier professional network.

Our long-term vision for CardMunch has been to help manage business contacts and help you to leverage your contacts and connections for doing business. With that in mind, we are thrilled to announce today that CardMunch is now a part of LinkedIn! LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network and as such, provides the perfect platform for us to execute the CardMunch vision.

That’s not all; we have even more good news! Starting today, the current version of the CardMunch app will be completely free! Yes, you heard right, the current version of the CardMunch app is now a free service, which means that you can capture and transcribe as many business cards as you like, free of charge. The CardMunch app on the AppStore has been updated to reflect this, and we encourage you to update the application by clicking on this link: http://lnkd.in/cardmunch

Please note that as a result of the acquisition, LinkedIn’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy will now apply to your use of the CardMunch service and the handling of your data.  If, for any reason, you are not comfortable with CardMunch’s new ownership, terms of service, or privacy policy, you may cancel your account by emailing cardmunch-support@linkedin.com.

The CardMunch team remains committed to providing the best product and service for managing business cards. Now with the strength of LinkedIn behind us, we will continue to do exactly that, but do it better, faster, and for free. We have prepared a list of frequently asked questions http://lnkd.in/cardmunchFAQ to address any questions or concerns you may have.  We are always happy to hear from our users, so if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at cardmunch-support@linkedin.com.

Thanks for using CardMunch!

Cheers,
The CardMunch Team

A Christmas Wish from a User

We get very excited to hear feedback from our users around the world.  We truly beleive it's what will help us create the best possible product and user experience.  Today, we received a flattering email from a user who has never even used our application before!  All she wanted was small gift for Christmas...

"I have the Evo from Spint. and your solution sounds like THE MOST PERFECT biz card solution i have EVER heard of! i have HUNDREDS of biz cards in my rolodex - and ive been meaning (since forever) to order a biz card scanner ...but ive been dragging on doing that b/c even that is still an extremely time consuming way to organize biz card data.

But the ability to snap a card image on the spot and have it proofed by human eyes? yes please!

And the ability to have the info auto synced and added to my phone? yes again please!

And then the final piece de resistance - the ability to flip through the card images cover flow style - nirvana! b/c of course - you cant remember the name of every person you collect a card from. and the ONLY solution in the past has been to manually flip through your rolodex. and so - even if you had your own admin genie who entered all of your cards for you electronically - there would still be no way to try to find the card from ol' whatshisname who you met at the whatchmacallit conference who sells the exact thingmajig that you need to purchase - right now!

All i want for christmas - since i already have my two front teeth - is cardmunch for android!"

Quick Connect offers 1-tap connections on LinkedIn

(download)
New in version 2.0, CardMunch offers users the fastest way to connect with their contacts on LinkedIn using Quick Connect.

With just a single tap, you can now invite your contacts to connect with you on LinkedIn.  With this feature, we feel that you’ll have the fastest and most convenient way of any mobile application to connect with your contacts on LinkedIn.  Connecting with your contacts on LinkediIn.com can often involve several steps from invitation to connection. We’ve simplified the entire process into one single step!

Here’s how it works.  If you are connecting with a contact using CardMunch for the first time, you will be prompted to enter your LinkedIn account information on the LinkedIn site itself.  Once you’re done, we’ll save your token information for all future connections you make using our app (so you’ll never have to enter your LinkedIn information again).  You can also customize and/or personalize your LinkedIn invitation message by visiting the ‘Settings’ page at any time. Get ready to turn all those business card contacts into LinkedIn connections!

LED Flash Support and Backgrounding

(download)

Have you ever been in a dim conference room or dinner event when you've received a business card?  It's so dark that you can barely read the name on the card. Not to worry, with CardMunch's LED flash support you won't have to read them in the dark anymore...just munch them using the app with our latest feature, LED flash support!

LED flash support allows you to take the brightest and best possible images of your business cards.  The iPhone 4 LED flash helps eliminate shadow and glare in your images.  We think you will be excited to have better quality and brighter images of all your business cards.  Now showing off CardFlow to your friends will be even cooler!

CardMunch 2.0 also supports backgrounding, you can pick up right where you left off with faster access to your contacts and cards.

Who needs a marketing budget? Slate reviews CardMunch

Post by Sid Viswanathan

We're always asked about our marketing plan for CardMunch and how we plan to get the word out about our product. As a startup, we have been 100% focused on our product and delivering the best possible user experience for the past year now, and as a result, marketing sometimes didn't get the attention and time it deserved in the early days of our company.  We're firm believers that all good products also need good marketing, but our focus has always been on product first.

And today we were lucky enough to be covered by Slate! We wanted to thank the team over at Slate, especially Farhad Manjoo for putting together this spectacular video, reviewing our product and service.  We'll be the first to admit that we're not the best at making marketing videos and Slate's video review of CardMunch will become a marketing staple for our company and brand moving forward!

CardFlow Mobile Rolodex gives you CoverFlow for your business cards

(download)
Post by Sid Viswanathan

We are very excited to announce that our upcoming release of CardMunch 2.0 will feature CoverFlow for your business cards.  We're calling this feature CardFlow, just turn your phone sideways and voila...CardFlow!

This visual display of every one of your business cards is truly awesome, and we've seen a great reaction from everyone we've shown it to. It's very quickly become one of the most popular features amongst the team here, and a personal favorite of mine.  We always take the time to go the extra mile for our users, so in addition to offering CoverFlow to view your cards, we added the ability to flip the card to see the actual transcribed information.  CardFlow is the easiest way to flip through all your CardMunch contacts to find the one you're looking for. It's also great for showing off to your friends. We think CardFlow is just the start of something very special.

We've talked with hundreds of our users and they always tell us about their pile/stack/mess of business cards on their desks, closets, and everywhere else you can imagine.  For the first time ever, that pile of cards is right where you need them most, visually on your phone.  And not to mention every card is fully transcribed. Think of all that free space on your desk we've given back to you :)

Be sure to watch the demo video above for a sneak peak of CardFlow.  We're sure you're going to love this feature!
